Position Summary: |
May be scheduled to work during non-traditional hours. Employee is expected to work evenings, weekends and holidays according to the scheduled needs of the Recreation Therapy program. Must have a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a valid NY State Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to operate motor vehicles for the purpose of community outings for patients participating in therapeutic and social activities. Position requires the ability to swim. American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate (or its equivalent from some other nationally recognized agency), CPR and First Aid Certificate will be required it applicant does not possess such certifications. A Certified Music Therapist is desired. The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, conducting and supervising a comprehensive and complex therapeutic/self directed Music/Recreation Therapy program that addresses the physical limitations, communicative disorders, cognitive deficits, social, emotional and/or behavioral reactions of young adult, middle adult, and geriatric patients. The therapist handles difficult cases involving patients who have multiple diagnoses and/or other severe medical complications which may require unconventional approaches to treatment and resourcefulness in devising effective methods and procedures. |

Position Requirements: |
BASIC REQUIREMENT: Successful completion of a full four year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree with a major in music therapy or in an appropriate subject matter field with therapeutic emphasis or concentration. The degree must have included a minimum of nine (9) semester hours in non-practicum coursework in subjects which are directly related to music therapy. GS-5: Applicants must meet basic education requirement. GS-7: In addition to the undergraduate education requirement, 1 full year of appropriate graduate level education OR 1 year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-7 level in the Federal Service. GS-9: 2 full years of graduate level education, a master's or equivalent graduate degree in an appropriate field OR in addition to the undergraduate education requirement, 1 year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-7 level in Federal service. GS-10: 3 full years of graduate level education, a Ph.D. or equivalent.

GS-9: 1 year of Federal service equivalent to the GS-7 level.
GS-10: 1 year of Federal service equivalent to the GS-9 level. |
