All my mail is delivered from Sam Houston to this address so I am assured of getting everything. </div> <div> </div> <div>I agree with much of what has been said regarding membership attendance, generally meetings have not been where I have been able to attend. Although I do not have children to tie up my time, I do have a family of 5 dogs that are quite demanding. I also have been going full time, with a near full time job (this semester I had 3 part time jobs). Needless to say, time is one of my most minimal commodities available. Since I am single, I am the sole person responsible for maintaining both the male and female chores at home. </div> <div> </div> <div>Either I missed the email for online discussions or simply have not been notified, otherwise I would have
attended.....again if possible. </div> <div> </div> <div>I also would love to be a part of the organization and bring ideas forth and share many of the feelings of not fitting in as I wonder often will this be the scenario once I graduate. I personally am nearing 30 years senior to most students, especially those entering directly out of highschool. This organization can be extremely valuable to students such as ourselves, if nothing else for finding our niche in student life. I think the dances and picnic ideas are great. It would be nice also to have some events that are away from campus to give those who are not in the area an opportunity to attend. I live in the Tomball area, and frankly am only on campus to meet class requirements and am then off to meet other obligations.</div> <div> </div> <div>Other organizations have opted for socials that take place in the Woodlands, or Conroe, so that those away from campus are not
having to travel 1-2 hours for an event that they may only be able to attend for a short period. I would like to come but driving 3 hours to attend for 1 hour is impossible and quite frankly with gas prices even more impossible. </div> <div> </div> <div>I too have required additional help from services in order to survive and continue my education. I often feel that even some of the instructors don't quite understand what an older student must sacrifice (financially, health, support, etc.) to make their dreams come true. I know walking the hills at Sam Houston are very trying for me as I am sure others have found. correctly I found out threw one of our advisers that<BR>happens to be a professor of mine. I do think that we could get a better<BR>word out. further more I agree with Andrea that we should hold a dance or<BR>something to that effect. Having a dance would allow us to not only get to<BR>know each other but we could also invite those who are interested in our<BR>organization. We could also do something like a picknick. It is cheap to<BR>do and everyone could bring a dish and our children. We have many place on<BR>campus and across the street that would serve our purpose there. I<BR>personally have only met a few of our members. I am aware that as "older<BR>adults" with jobs and children it is not always easy to get all of us in<BR>one room at the same time. As far as moving the meetings, we have a<BR>relative small turn out at our meetings as of late.<BR>I think the meeting room that we have is fine (at lest for now) it surveys<BR>our purpose and it being small allows us a
more personal meeting. I know<BR>in my own experience I dont talk to many people on campus because I dont<BR>think I would have much in common with them. lord knows I feel like and<BR>old woman on campus because most people are 10 or so years younger than I.<BR>Its a feeling of just not fitting in. NTSO is the answer to that problem.<BR>I assume that most of those in our organization are in the same boat.<BR>Another idea that I have is that our being a social organization I would<BR>like to purpose that we do some kind of "giving back to our community". I<BR>have had my own experiences were if it had not been for the generous<BR>people of our community I would have even less than what I do and I would<BR>not have been able to stay in school as long as I have. I dont know much<BR>about how we get our money for our organization or if we are able to raise<BR>funds in one way or another. I would like to even see if there is one way<BR>or another that we could even help to
support each other. The angel tree<BR>is a great idea. There are other times when people have even less because<BR>Christmas is the only time when donations are up for those in need. There<BR>are things like the Sam Houston folk fest this weekend and I seen them<BR>pracicly begging for people to help out with it. There is one set of <BR>students who really want to participate but cannot make the lunchtime <BR>meetings, another set who enjoy the meetings, and one more set that simply <BR>enjoys listening to the organizational happenings.<BR><BR>This organization, as we allow our voices to be heard, will become political <BR>from time to time, but I agree that it is primarily a social group. John <BR>wrote a beautiful constitution.<BR><BR>I am not one of the original founders of the organization, but through the <BR>labor that I have put into this group over the past year in a half I have <BR>noticed that a few simply additions (such as having a second listserv for <BR>the online meetings and discussions) would

Also as part of that organization I have had my poetry published<BR>and participated in the choosing of what was published in the magazine in<BR>the years there after. As a PR person, It was up to us to do class visits<BR>to tell others of our organization, make posters for the events that we<BR>held, help to come up with ideas for the events and set them up. I<BR>received a special recognition from them in 2005 for all my hard work and<BR>loyalty. I really enjoyed working in that organization and would love to<BR>be involved with NTSO much
the same way.<BR>The more I am involved with NTSO the more ideas I have for our<BR>organization and would like to bring them to the table.<BR>I am a 33 year old (29 if anyone ask) JR. I am due to graduate in 2007<BR>with my BA in psychology.
