If Joseph Conrad had been writing about going upstream on a Programming Firm's private profiteering river and the firm had selected COBOL as its sole language, well......   "The Heart of Darkness" would have ended with, "THE GLOBALS! THE GLOBALS!" instead.

In the last month I have had 4 employers call for COBOL, think 2 "C", 2 Java, no "C++", 1 Ada, no Smalltalk, 1 C#, 2 VB.net, after that it gets pretty lonely.
