Hello all:
We've just opened a web applications developer position here in the Dean
of Liberal Arts office at Texas A&M University in College Station,
Texas. The official title is lead software applications developer
(Notice of Vacancy number: 080061, I list the NOV number because we have
two lead software applications developer positions open right now).
We are a Zope and Plone shop over here and we are looking for the
programmer who can integrate into our web team and take our website to
the next level. We do not expect to find many pre-trained python
programmers out there; we do have a training budget for this position.
We have several applications that we would like to create including a
way that faculty can easily manage their academic information both for
the web and for their annual faculty reports. The person in this
position will also work with our departments and units as part of our
web team and eventually extend our Zope and Plone system to all units in
the College of Liberal Arts that want to use it. We also expect that
this person will contribute back to the Zope and Plone projects and
really leverage the strength of these open source communities in
building cool new products and tools for us and others who want to use
them.

The text from the list of duties follows: Work with our internal
clients and the college web team to provide sites for college
departments, programs, and projects. Manage all aspects of the technical
parts of each individual project including making coding decisions, test
plans, managing the project schedule with our clients, recommending
systems, products and coding languages to accomplish our clients' goals,
documenting the project plans, and coding in the most modular and
reusable ways possible. Creating custom products and pages in our Zope
and Plone content management system (CMS), including working on Zope and
Plone products in the open source community and publishing some Zope and
Plone products. Our internal clients and the college web team will help
to provide direction for what products and pages are needed. We fully
expect that the person in this position will serve as project lead on
several Zope and Plone product teams with many of the duties described
above. Other open source collaboration is possible. Participate with the
College Web Team in the design of websites including layout, navigation,
graphics and new media, functionality, accessibility, and innovative
feature development. Serve as the technical expert for the College Web
Team. Other duties as required.
A portfolio (which may be web-based) is required for the application for
this job.
Our web team is composed of the director of information technology, the
director of college relations, our web content editor, this position,
and some help from student assistants. Please direct any questions
about this position to me at balfour at tamu.edu.
