Raid 1 always takes a performance hit compared to no raid or raid 0. If you
are planning on having a backup drive I would recommend really using one of
the new server devices that allow you to store stuff in raid 0 or raid 1.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822102002 or something
like this is what I would recommend over replacing hard drives inside your
computer. This would be accessible by multiple computers and could be easily
kept for any new computers you may purchase in the future.
