MIT refers to Melodic Intonation Therapy - a speech therapy technique using
singing moving toward speech.  It was developed in the late 1970s by Sparks
and Helm.  I know several music therapists who work with rehab patients
who have used these techniques.
One of my interns did her final project as a case study about a woman she
did MIT with for several months.  It is a very specific process.
