Well Jim,
Maybe just a difference in philosophical approach. 
I use live music much of the time. If however, either the client, observer,
intern, student, administrator, etc. is focused on my musical ability
instead of the therapeutic process, I have missed the boat. If the focus is
on the quality of the product versus the effectiveness of the process, I
feel that I am not being true to what I think of, and practice, as the use
of music to help clients understand themselves.
Like I say Jim---perhaps just a difference in philosophy,
