Dear Renato, I know that when I am talking about basic music skills in
interns, I am talking about piano, voice, and guitar.  A student, and I was
one of them, may have another instrument as their major instrument to get
into school.  And yes, they should be compentent musicians on that
instrument.  However, it is not often that I can use bassoon, my major
instrument, in the therapy setting.  I must also be competent on piano,
guitar, and voice, as well as a variety of percussion instruments.  As for
your second point, I agree 100%.  I ask all prospective interns that very
question.  How will you keep music in your life, after college?
