Dear Music Therapy Colleagues,
=20
We have a unique opportunity to influence regulations that allow access=20
to Music Therapy services through IDEA or the Individuals with Disabilities=20
Education Act. Part C of IDEA deals with early intervention programs for=20
children from birth to age 3. Unlike regulations for children 3 - 21, Music=20
Therapy has never been listed as an approved related service under Part C. =20
Fortunately, this part of IDEA is open for review and comments for a short=20
time. If the Department of Education receives enough mail about adding Musi=
c=20
Therapy to the list of approved related services, we might be able to make a=
=20
change in the regulations.
I am personally asking you to help in this grassroots campaign and to ask fo=
r=20
support from parents, administrators and other professionals in the form of=20
letters, phone calls or e-mails. And, if each of you send this message on t=
o=20
all the other music therapists in your address book, as I did, we could=20
possibly make a difference. The information for comments is listed below,=20
however the deadline for comments is December 4th , 2000.=20
Please contact me with any further questions. Thank you in advance for=20
help in this. Our little ones and their families need us!
