[Mt-pro] Seeking Blind Rehabilitation Therapist-Albany, NY

The Albany, NY Veterans Affairs Medical Center is seeking a Blind
Rehabilitation Therapist.  This is not a Music Therapy job, but maybe
you or someone you know would be interested and qualified.  This job has
been posted since December, and we've received no applicants.  If you've
got some training and experience with blind/low vision you might be
considered for the position.  They're pretty vague about the education
requirements ("Degree; major study in an academic field related to the
health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the
position.")  The salary is good, starting at $54,494 with regular
increases.  

 

The duties are:

The Low Vision Therapist is responsible for functioning as a full member
of a Rehabilitation Team.  The team is responsible for the total
rehabilitation process of assigned patients.  This includes:  evaluating
patient needs, counseling, developing an individualized treatment plan,
implementing this plan, and recommending prosthetic issuance.  The
incumbent also assists research in evaluating new technology, provides
cross training instruction for other blind rehabilitation specialists in
low vision, and develops instructional material that can be utilized by
any member of the team.  The Low Vision Therapist uses functional vision
evaluation instruments to asses visual acuity, visual fields, contract
sensitivity function, color vision, stereopsis, visual perceptual and
visual motor functioning, literacy skills in reading and writing, etc.
as they relate to vision impairment and disability.  The CLVT also
evaluates work history, educational performance, ADL and IADL
performance, use of technology, quality of life and aspects of
psychosocial and cognitive function.
