The SAM Center is sponsoring Parents' Finals Relief which will be presenting free child care while you study! This is the first time this program has been available for parents, so I hope you will take advantage of it so that it can continue!

General Program Info:

Purpose: Parent's Finals Relief is a program that allows parents one to two days of study time while student volunteers care for their children.

When: Tuesday, May 5th and Wednesday, May 6th

Time: 4:00pm-7:00pm

Location: Student Advising and Mentoring Center (SAM Center) CHSS Building Room 190

Eligibility: Currently enrolled students at SHSU with children ages 6mths - 12 years

Guidelines:
To participate parents must:

 *
be students enrolled in the current semester at SHSU with a child/children between the ages of 6mths - 12 years of age
 *
advance register for all children
 *
sign a participation contract with includes an agreement to participate "at risk" releasing SHSU of any liability
 *
sign an agreement to stay in the designated study areas assigned by the SAM Center. This component is a major factor that allows us to operate without any regulation for the state.

The SAM Center and student volunteers will not be involved in the following:

 * providing any type of major food/beverage service: parents will have to bring their child a dry snack and drink - preferably a clear liquid or milk. It won't be advertised, but for parents who forget a snack, we'll have water and crackers available for their child, but they'll have to sign a form allowing us to give it out.
 * diaper changing/toilet training: parents will be called out of the study session in the event that their child needs a change or needs to be taken down the hall to the bathroom
 * major discipline issues: if our volunteers are unable to work effectively with a child, their parent(s) will be called out of the study session.
 * Administration of Medication (whether over-the-counter or prescription)

Misc:

 * Student volunteers will all be background checked by University Police Department
 * Parent's enrollment will be verified before they are allowed to participate
 * A limited number of children will be allowed each day - work with ratios established by TDFPS

I hope you all will take advantage of this!!!

Thanks!!
