Project CONNECT is a federally funded Student Support Services TRIO program designed to help students graduate from college. We serve 160 first generation, low income, and/or disabled students each year and we currently have 5-10 spots that we are trying to fill. We have had several NTSO members in our program in the past so we wanted to pass along some information about our program to y’all.

We have a variety of services that are designed to help our participants stay in college, increase their GPAs, and help them reach their goal of graduation! Our services include: tutoring, paper editing, mentoring, academic advising, tickets to local cultural events like plays, seminars/workshops over topics like study skills, relaxation/stress relief, and money management, career counseling, personal counseling, and much more! We also have a computer lab, study room, and lounge for our participants to use. One of our most popular services is our textbook lending library. Participants who are active in our program (use our services) and maintain contact with us throughout the semester, are eligible to borrow textbooks from us for the semester! We guarantee that we will lend you at least one book per semester as long as you have been actively participating in our program.

Once a student is in our program, they stay in it until they graduate from SHSU or transfer to another school. You only have to apply once!

Applications can be downloaded from our website: http://www.shsu.edu/~org_connect/. You can also stop by our office in the Kirkley building (room 204) to pick up a paper application, tour our offices, and find out more information about our program. Directions to our office can be found on our website.

Even if you already have all of your books for this semester, I encourage you to apply for our program today! If you are accepted to the program this semester, you will be able to borrow textbooks from us for the summer semesters. You will also be able to participate in all of our other free services like tutoring and paper editing this semester. Once we have filled our last few spots, we will not be accepting students into Project CONNECT until the fall semester. Admission to Project CONNECT in the fall is much more competitive than it is in the spring.

If you have any questions, please call our office at 936-294-1694. If you are not interested in joining our program, please pass along our information to a friend or family member who you think would be interested! Thank you!
