Subject: New PhD program in Applied Psychology and Prevention Science at UMass Lowell

Dear Professor:

I am writing to you about a new Ph.D. program in Applied Psychology and Prevention Science that will enroll its first cohort in Fall 2016. There are three areas of concentration-Applied Cognitive, Applied Developmental, and Applied Community and Social Psychology (described in more detail on the attached flier). We are contacting you because you currently offer a degree in a program relevant to our new doctoral program and we hope that you will refer your best students to us for further study. We do offer a limited number of stipends and teaching assistantships for qualified candidates. More information is available at phd-apps at uml.edu<mailto:phd-apps at uml.edu>

Our department is dynamic and growing with two established Master's programs-one in Community Social Psychology and one in Autism Studies. In fact, our entire campus is in a period of unprecedented growth both in quantity and quality. We have climbed more in the ranks of US News and World Report in recent years than any other university in the country except for San Diego (and we freely admit that we cannot compete with that climate). We are committed to enhancing research, innovation, and collaborations, both within the department and across campus.

Please feel free to give me a call (978-934-3968) or send an email if you have any interest or know of some strong candidates to recommend. If you are near Lowell and have interested students, I would be happy to meet with them here or at your institution.

Thanks very much, in advance.

Sincerely,

Allyssa McCabe, Ph.D.
