SHSU Center for Research &  Clinical Training in Trauma Mental Health Professionals in Court & Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
 Presenters: Nancy Hebert, Chief Prosecutor, Special Victims Unit - Crimes Against Children Susana Martinez, LPC-S, Clinic Director, Children's Safe Harbor
 This presentation is designed for mental health care professionals and students who are interested in learning more about Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and the role and function of therapists in the legal system. The presentation will cover:

* Steps to take after receiving a subpoena * Difference between subpoenas vs. court orders and how to respond to them according to HIPAA rules * How to prepare to testify in court (communicating with attorneys, professionalism, things to avoid and more)

Participants will be introduced to Parent-Child Interaction Therapy which is an evidence-based treatment for children which emphasizes coaching parents to manage the most challenging of their children's behaviors as well as establishing strong parent-child relationships.

Participants will learn the basic rationale for PCIT, recognize when to use it, and listen to case examples that will explain the steps for helping parents with discipline and relationship issues with their child.
