Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists & Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council TPA Committee

Attend TSBEP and BHEC meetings on behalf of TPA. Alert TPA staff and leadership of any discussions that would impact TPA or psychology. This committee conducts its work via email, but members are expected to attend some agency meetings in person in Austin if virtual options are not offered. The committee may review upcoming posted agenda, provide notes during meetings, and address issues with the state boards as they arise, with regular reports to the TPA Board of Trustees. Dr. Ashlee M. Martinez

The next member we’re featuring for our Member Spotlight series is Dr. Ashlee Martinez. Dr. Martinez is the Whole Health Psychologist at South Texas Veterans Health Care system (STVHCS). She serves as a Psychology Trainee Supervisor and Co-Chair of the Psychology Department Diversity Training Committee. Dr. Martinez is the Co-Owner and founder of Anima Mundi PLLC, providing psychological and consultation services. She is also an independent contractor, providing services to clients in Texas, Iowa, and PSYPACT-participating states. She has taught as an Adjunct Instructor at Texas A&M University - Kingsville and Our Lady of the Lake University - San Antonio.

Co-Sign the Gender-Affirming Care Letter
TPA’s Board of Trustees (BOT) and Representatives of the Academic and Higher Education Committee (AHEC) are concerned about the nonbinding ruling of Attorney General Ken Paxton that some forms of gender-affirming care may constitute child abuse and Governor Abbott’s recent directive for the Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate forms of gender-affirming care as child abuse. Accepting Nominations for TPA Texas Citizen Psychologist
TPA's Texas Citizen Psychologist program is based on the APA Citizen Psychologist initiative implemented by 2018 APA President Dr. Jessica Henderson Daniel. In support of Dr. Alfonso Mercado’s Presidential theme of Psychology’s Role in Serving the Underserved and Disadvantaged Populations, the TPA Citizen Psychologist program will highlight psychologists making a difference in Texas. Recipients engage in their communities, in clinical and/or research settings addressing underserved and disadvantaged populations’ needs and promote equity to mental health care and research. We encourage you to nominate psychologists whose work should not go unnoticed, those who are making a difference in their communities and are engaging in research or clinical work to address the needs of vulnerable groups.

Texas Citizen Psychologists will be recognized in TPA's quarterly publication, the Texas Psychologist. We will be reviewing submissions for the upcoming Texas Psychologist soon, so please nominate your colleagues now.
