Folks,

Cherrie Moraga will be in my classroom speaking to graduate students on April 28 from 6-8 p.m.. She will be discussing Chicano studies, queer studies, feminism, race and ethnic studies, and post-colonial studies and how her work intersects
with these. Your graduate students are invited to attend, but I want to have a basic idea of how many will be attending, so I can have the class in an appropriate room.
Can you please poll your graduate students and give me an estimate of how many would like to attend, so I can accommodate them? If your students wish to attend, I will send you some readings that they can read to prepare. I would really like our students
to get an opportunity to work with her. Feel free to send this forward to others who might have graduate students that are interested.

Here is a little information about her: Cherrie Moraga is a queer, feminist, Chicana writer and scholar. Beginning with her two key publications—This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color with Gloria Anzaldua
and Cuentos: Stories by Latinas—Moraga and her women of color feminist cohort began the work of solidifying a movement that permanently disrupted the dominant narratives of gender, indigeneity, race, sexuality, feminism, and literature. As a writer,
she is the recipient of the United States Artists Rockefeller Fellowship for Literature and the American Studies Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Her work has influenced both the humanities and social sciences.

She will also be giving a talk on April 27 in the LSC theater at 6:00 p.m. that is open to all students, faculty, and staff. This will be followed by an interview with her and a book signing. Her talk is titled “The World Is Not an Accident”—Women
of Color Feminism on the Daily: Cultivating a Culture of Collective Imagination and Progressive Praxis. Please encourage your students to attend. I will be keeping track of attendance for professors.
