Hello, 
Anyone recieving this email is in some way, shape or
form interested in the Arts in this University.  So
below is a short summary of the Art-based functions
taking place in the next week.  Attend and help raise
appreciation of the arts at this campus.

October 29 - November 1st.  
Not About Nightinggales, a Tennessee Williams play, is
being performed by the SHSU theatre department.  A
secret love and inmate/guard relations are two of the
plotlines of this play, which was inspired by a
Pennslyvania prison scandal that that shocked the
nation in 1938.  Tickets are 8 bucks for students and
show times are at 8:00 on Wednesday through Saturday,
with a matinee on Saturday at 2:00.  

October 31
The English Honors Society is having a Halloween
poetry reading in the Old Main pit. The reading is at
7:00 p.m.  Come in costume and ready to read your
poetry or listen to the poetry of fellow students.  

October 24-25
The Music Department is presenting All Things
Operatic, which includes selections from 'several
great and beloved operas', such as Carmen, Marriage of
Figaro and the Barber of Seville.  It is friday and
Saturday @  7:30 in the SHSU recital hall.  Free to
all students and faculty.  

October 29
Program Council will be hosting Slam Poet Jason
Carney, who has appeared on HBO's Def Poetry Jam.  He
will be performing at 7:00 in the LSC Ballroom. 
Admission is free.  Carney has been called one of the
brightest, insightful performance poets in the nation,
and uses his poetry to speak out against the troubled
actions and views of the world.  This is not literary
poetry either, this is in your face, rebel without a
cause, reckless poetry.  This is stimulating poetry,
poetry of the masses.
