Dear Bearkat Deltans,

All Students at SHSU are cordially invited by the Houston Writers Guild to participate in National Novel Writer’s Month, aka Nanowrimo. The goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days and the first three students to reach this goal will receive special prizes from the Houston Writers Guild. Participation will require registration with the Nanowrimo official website (nanowrimo.org<http://nanowrimo.org>) and with the local coordinator (Julian Kindred) no later than November 1st. Regular meetings will be held throughout the month of November for participants to come together to write and discuss writing at the local Starbucks (101 IH 45 South). The first meeting will provide writing prompts and instructions for registering on the Nanowrimo website.

The goal is a rough draft, not a finished product, and to inspire participants’ passion for the craft. As such this competition will be treated as a race. Participants should register their final product on the Nanowrimo website as soon as they have reached the targeted word count and email a copy to Julian Kindred at juliankindred at yahoo.com<mailto:juliankindred at yahoo.com>. As the conference is in April, winners will have several months to complete, edit, and revise their manuscripts.

The prizes
1st) 3 day free registration to the Houston Writers Guild’s Annual Conference and a free pitch session with a literary agent
2nd) Free registration to the conference on Saturday and a free pitch session with a literary agent.
3rd) Free registration to the conference on Saturday.

This is a great chance to get your novel heard by a literary agent.

The time to begin writing an article is when you have finished it to your satisfaction. By that time you begin to clearly and logically perceive what it is that you really want to say.
